MEGHRI, Armenia The American University of Armenia proudly announces the establishment of pediatric dental services supported by the Entrepreneurs in Health (EIH) program of the Turpanjian College of Health Sciences (CHS).

After graduating from Yerevan State Medical University in 2019 and working as a pediatric dentist in Yerevan and the surrounding marzes of Armenia, Dr. Liana Hakobyan decided to bring her dream of owning a dental clinic to life. She is operating the clinic together with her husband, maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Karlen Hakobyan.

Dr. Liana Hakobyan successfully completed the mandatory training in entrepreneurship and healthcare quality assurance within the EIH program, subsequently developing and presenting her business and quality assurance plans, both of which were approved by the EIH Executive Committee. As a result, she qualified for financial assistance to procure needed equipment and receive the program’s support for continual professional development and participation in public health initiatives in the region.

Meghri’s head of community, colleagues, family members, and friends, as well as local residents and EIH program representatives, were present during the clinic’s opening ceremony. “Despite the fact that I am not from Meghri myself, I felt such a large outpour of support from the community throughout the process of establishing the clinic,” said Dr. Karlen Hakobyan, who also thanked the EIH program, the community head, and guests. The community head also expressed gratitude to the entrepreneurs and the EIH program for this opportunity and highlighted the importance of investment in border communities․

The EIH program will continue to mentor Dr. Hakobyan with professional advice in healthcare quality assurance, preventive dentistry, operational and financial management, and other relevant consulting.

The aim of the Entrepreneurs in Health (EIH) program is to improve access to quality health services in rural communities of Armenia through the introduction of advanced technologies and innovative approaches to support healthcare professionals in developing private health practices.

The AUA Turpanjian College of Health Sciences works actively to improve population health and health services in Armenia and the region through interdisciplinary education and development of health professionals to be leaders in public health, nursing, health services research and evaluation, and health care delivery and management.
